Alberto Guardia began growing coffee at Hacienda Sonora 45 years ago. His son Diego works alongside his father to improve and maintain the farm’s operation. On this 100 hectare farm, 65 hectares are dedicated to shade coffee, 10 hectares to sugarcane and 25 hectares are wild forest reserve. All of the energy consumed by the farm is 100% renewable energy produced on the farm via a water turbine. This energy supplies power to the coffee mill and provides a portion of free electricity for the people who live and work at the farm. One of the many advantages for working at Hacienda Sonora is the fact that they provide free accommodation for each worker and their families.
